Interview to Sasha Gray (๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฒ)

Pornstar, writer, actress and now a DJ on tour. Sasha Gray will arrive in Lima for a party that promises to break the rules. With the mentality of always being the best in everything she does, she spoke with us about her career as an actress (adult and traditional film) as well as her motivations and about the show she will present this July 27 in the capital.

How did your interest in being a DJ start?

I started in 2010. Before I had been collecting records and trying small mixes at home. He was also in a band (aTelecine). Then I started writing about music and posting online, and I found myself chatting with musicians and band members that I liked. I finally decided to go to clubs. At first it was strange. In the United States, you have to be 21 to enter, so I had hardly ever stepped on one before.

What do you have prepared for Peru?

I've never been to Lima, so I don't know what kind of set I'm going to play. I just know it's going to be a fun show. I have some friends in Peru, and from what they tell me I can't wait to get there. I still do not know if the time will reach me, but I would like to go to Machu Picchu, know the mystique of the place. I hope it is at least half as wonderful as Mexico is.

You act, you write and now you're on tour. Is life a constant test?

Life is short. I want to be able to experience a variety of things, but most of all I want to be successful and be the best at what I do. Por ejemplo, Being a DJ is not playing music, it is reading to the audience. If you are at a festival, maybe they have come to listen to you, but in a club you are at the service of people. It happened to me that they called me from a club asking for House, but when I arrived I realized that the audience wants Rage. You have to be ready. No race is about improvisation.

How are you as an actress? You made your "traditional" debut with Steven Sodebergh, playing a call girl.

It was spectacular. Some people don't know it, but he's a detail manager. He watches cinematography, operates cameras half the time, edits. His sets are like no other, very intimate. The Girlfriend Experience was my first film as an actress, and I was excited. I wrote down all my ideas in this kind of journal about the character, and chatted with Steven before filming. It wasn't giving you directions; he drew a scheme and let you be.

What is the main difference in preparation for an adult film and a traditional one?

In an adult film, no matter how much you are acting, what you show is an extension of yourself. No matter how much you prepare and know the plot, the "character" is still you. In a traditional film you act, and although I feel that it is important to reveal part of you, in the end you are putting a layer between what you present to the camera and who you really are.

“People watch porn and they enjoy it, but they still go out of their way to put a label on it, to call it taboo,” Sasha says.

What was it like to write your first book? Is it very different to promote a book to a porn movie?

Writing was quite a process. I did a lot of research, I reviewed a lot of notes that I had taken during my life. I have been writing since I was very little. This book began with a character similar to me, but who at the same time has a different character and therefore takes paths that I did not follow. The book opened my eyes and allowed me to explore personal fantasies. I want to turn it into a series. Regarding promotion, I was for the first time in countries like Brazil or Russia, and I met other types of people, among writers, artists; people of very different backgrounds, ages and opinions. And everyone

You are extremely talented, but you have stated many times that you continue to face stereotypes that are born of the adult industry.

It becomes easier to deal with that over the years. What happens is that the public has a distorted vision. People like to think that porn is only for anti-heroes, and that is not the case. There are many smart, capable and talented people who are working on this because they want to. There is an abundance of positive stories, just nobody knows them because they are not the ones they want to sell or spread. People watch porn and enjoy it, but still go out of their way to put a label on it, to call it taboo. And it is not, it is natural.

Do you have idols in the industry?

Yes, Belladonna.

You broke a lot of stereotypes in your time as a porn celebrity. Was it difficult to make you listen?

I don't think I even thought about it. He was very young, he just went straight ahead. You do not carry an ideology since you are a child, it is afterwards that you understand things. I dared because I was not afraid.
