How did you get to cosplay? Was it something you've always wanted to do, or did it just occur to you?
My brothers attended Blizzcon in 2009 and came back with photos of these majestic creatures, which they referred to as "cosplayers." I had never heard of such a thing, but I thought it had to be a part of it. Mi madre me enseñó a coser cuando yo era joven, I had been obsessed with creation for my entire life and my life already included a bit of nerdism. It was just meant to be. When I finally attended my first convention in 2012 (yes, that recently), I characterized myself as Black Cat, Jessica Rabbit and Jade. It was one of the best experiences of my life.

Of all the characters you have had the pleasure of portraying, Who was your all time favorite and why?
So far my favorite character to cosplay is Poison Ivy because she is a science lover, super nerd turned seductress. I can relate to her as Dr. Pamela Isley and I feel like her sexy alter ego when I dress up as Poison Ivy.

If you compare your everyday personality to any superhero, Who would you be more like and why?
I don't know of any superhero who goes to school all day, plays all night, and dresses like other superheroes on the weekend, so I honestly have no idea.

Where do you get your inspiration from?
Because I'm surrounded by games, comics, sci-fi, and all things nerdy on a daily basis, I would have to say that my inspiration comes from my everyday life. I think that's why my "potential cosplay" portfolio has over 90 character ideas and is continually growing.

How much of your costumes are made by you, by others, or just bought?
I do everything that is within my ability or ability to learn. I make and modify items if I have them around the house and have bought things, such as my katana and weapon for an upcoming Babydoll cosplay. I'll be doing the mods to the weapon myself (creating charms and applying decals). The katana is a limited edition movie replica so I wanted it as a collector anyway. Jade was actually a commission; Probably my first and only because I am stubborn and enjoy a good challenge. The costume was made by Dawn Herrera (Hikari Kat Cosplay). I found her online while looking for art to create the suit myself. really, I didn't have time before Dragon * Con and his creation was too perfect to pass up!

What does the term "cosplay" mean to you?
Cosplay is a fun way to pay tribute to great characters and the people who created them. Open the doors to meet like-minded individuals; Some of whom have become my closest friends in a very short period of time. I can't imagine my life without him now.

For someone looking to get into cosplay, What are some of the positives and negatives that go along with the hobby?
Positives include the supportive and talented people you meet, the ability to share interests with your peers and great feelings of accomplishment when you finally finish a suit what cost your blood, sweat and tears go inside. If you only pay attention to the positive aspects, entonces los negativos nunca importarán. The most obvious negatives include the cost and inability to attend all cons all over the world.

Do you have any future projects in planning?
I have so much planned for 2013 and beyond! I will be debuting 3-6 costumes for three conventions that I will attend in March. I'm working on creating my working home page at www.kristenhughey.com, which will feature photos, my convention calendar, works in progress, giveaways, tutorials, videos, and any something else I might consider nerdy-worthy. I am launching a print shop in the near future, so I am nervous and excited!

A final project that I have in the works is a non-profit organization: Heroic.  I am starting small through the sale of bracelets and some other products at my next store. All proceeds will be donated to a chosen charity. If you want more information about this great effort, you can read it at www.kristenhughey.com/Heroic.

Your recent portrayal of characters like Jade from Mortal Kombat and Poison Ivy from the Batman franchise show that you are a fan of both franchises. With NetherRealm Studios released Injustice: Gods Among Us in April 2013, are you excited to battle some of the most iconic faces in pop culture?
It is not even a question. There aren't many games that provoke me to play on my consoles instead of my PC, but I wouldn't do it any other way for a fighting game like this. The stages look amazing and the fact that you can interact with them and change your play style based on each one is very cool. I think NetherRealm and Warner Bros. did a great job with this one. It's a classic style game with a very modern, innovative, and sometimes hilarious twist. Dibs in Batman!

What console do you play on? What are some of your favorite titles?
I am primarily a PC gamer today. I have a PS3 and 360, but I prefer to use a keyboard and mouse, especially for FPS games. Sin embargo, no tengo ningún problema to go back to my N64 to play Ocarina of Time or SNES and give Back, Back, B to my opponents like Scorpion in Mortal Kombat. There are some games that will always be my favorites. My current favorite PC games are League of Legends, Torchlight 2, Guild Wars 2, Arkham and Chivalry games. I am mentioning those because they are what I have been playing lately. I'm a Valve and Blizzard fanatic. Diablo II will always have a special place in my heart.

What are some hobbies you enjoy outside of cosplay?
I am a student for the mere reason that I like to learn ... talk about expensive hobbies. I also love belly dancing, photography, cooking, travel, Reiki, and many other forms of natural healing and health.

What are some of your favorite TV shows and movies?
I enjoy watching The Walking Dead, Dexter, Lost, Battlestar Galactica, Arrested developed, Big Bang Theory, Family Guy, American Dad, and The Office. For Movies: My favorite movie of all time is Braveheart. My favorite trilogy is Lord of the Rings. My favorite saga is Star Wars. Obviously.

What's the craziest thing you've ever done?
I can't answer that. My parents read these things

What is it that most people don't know about you?
I'm a bit obsessed with Zelda games. This understanding finally occurred to me when I purchased a Wii for the sole purpose of playing Skyward Sword. I bought the limited edition set with the gold controller and I do not allow anyone to use the gold controller. I call it "my precious".
